We raise grass-fed Southdown-Texel cross lambs on our family farm in Vermont.
the lambs
Our ideal lamb is going to finish perfectly on our pasture. Our moms are Southdown crosses and our ram is a robust Texel named Hugo.
THE FARM
Nestled in the Broad Brook valley with sloping hills on both sides, Balla Machree Farm is ideally suited for sheep. Where Merinos once grazed in the 1800’s and Holstein Friesian cows from the 1940’s to the 1980’s, our growing flock is helping us reclaim dozens of acres of once-open pastures.
the farmers
We met in Vermont in 1992 and over the decades have established a homestead and now a farming operation which gives us a connection to the land that means so much to us.
My fondest childhood memories always circle back to summers on Balla Machree Farm. We had 50 head of milking Holstein Friesian cows with almost as many calves and heifers. Summertime on the Farm was a mad dash to prepare for the next winter....
